We are delighted and grateful to announce that our project “The Water Recedes, the People Remain” received Third Prize at the 2026 Civil Society Gala, in the Social Assistance Services category. This was a record-breaking edition, with 263 projects submitted by 146 participating organizations.
It all began in September 2024, when devastating floods in Galați County left thousands of families with their homes and properties severely damaged or destroyed.
We responded from the very first days, providing food, water, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. But we knew that once the floodwaters receded, people would still need support to rebuild their lives.
Together with donors, sponsors, partners, and volunteers, we achieved:
✔️ Provided direct support to over 3,000 people across more than 25 communities.
✔️ Distributed over 25 tonnes of humanitarian aid.
✔️ Built 8 new homes and renovated 5 houses for vulnerable families.
✔️ Provided educational support to over 500 children, including 30 who received monthly scholarships.
✔️ Helped restore schools, medical facilities, and community spaces affected by the floods.
Behind these results are people. Families who needed support, colleagues who worked tirelessly to find solutions, more than 50 volunteers, and numerous donors and partners who chose to get involved.
For us, this award recognizes the power of solidarity and reinforces our belief that support should not end when the immediate emergency is over.
We thank everyone who has been part of this project, as well as the organizers of the Civil Society Gala and The Institute, for this recognition.
🏆 This award belongs to everyone who chose to stand by people when they needed it most.
Because the water recedes. But the good we do together remains. 🧡
