Backpack and School Supplies Donations

For many children, the start of school means excitement, new friends, and a desire to learn.

For others, the beginning of the school year comes with worries. For many families, buying a backpack and the necessary school supplies is an expense parents simply cannot afford. But no child should start school with fewer opportunities simply because their family is facing financial hardship.

That is why, every year, Inimă de Copil Foundation organizes campaigns to collect and provide fully equipped backpacks to children who need them most.

Familia T. are 5 copii.

Help a Child Start School Ready to Learn

Every year, Inimă de Copil Foundation supports hundreds of children with backpacks and essential school supplies, helping them start the school year with the things they need to learn and participate in class with confidence.

Most of the children we support come from disadvantaged families in rural communities. We also support children attending our day centers, refugee children rebuilding their lives in Romania, and children with disabilities who benefit from our programs.

For many of their families, the cost of a new backpack, notebooks, pens, pencils and other school supplies can be difficult to afford.

We believe that a child’s opportunities for education should not depend on where they were born or their family’s financial circumstances.

You Can Help

There are several ways to support our school supplies campaign:

  • Donate a new backpack and school supplies for a child.
  • Make a donation to help us purchase the backpacks and supplies that are most needed.
  • Get your colleagues involved and organize a school supplies collection or fundraising initiative at your workplace.
  • Get your company involved by sponsoring backpacks and school supplies for children and communities in need.

Whether you help one child or mobilize an entire team, your support becomes something very practical: a child walking into school with the supplies they need and knowing that someone believes in their future.

Would you like to support a child’s education? Get involved and help us prepare the next backpacks.

Support a Romanian Child’s Education

School had started two weeks earlier. At the village shop, a little girl of about eight or nine and her mother were standing in line in front of me. She was wearing her school uniform, and the backpack on her back caught my attention. It was worn and damaged, the zipper was broken, and it was held closed with nothing but a safety pin. The little girl kept looking at the shelves and pointing to the colorful backpacks.

“Look, Mum, that red one. Maybe it’s not that expensive… Or the smaller one with the flowers.”

Her mother said nothing. She was carefully checking the prices of the notebooks. She bought three Romanian-language notebooks, three maths notebooks and a pack of pens.

“The notebooks are what matters now, so you have something to write in. We’ll see about a backpack… another time. You know we can’t afford one,” she whispered.

But I heard her. All of us standing in line behind them heard her. An elderly man took 100 lei out of his pocket. He asked for the red backpack. Then he hurried to place it in the little girl’s arms as she stood by the door, struggling to fasten the safety pin again after putting her new notebooks into her old backpack.

Did you hear her, too?
