Olena, an energetic Ukrainian grandmother who arrived in Romania a few months ago with her daughter and grandchildren to escape the war in their country, has made a significant difference in the lives of children with developmental challenges.

Trained and experienced in working with people with disabilities in Ukraine, Olena, over the age of 60, found employment at the Refugee Center in Galați. With professionalism, energy, creativity, patience, and boundless compassion, Olena works individually with ten children, transforming their lives and bringing joy to their families.

She not only conducts therapeutic exercises but also plays with them, takes them to nearby parks, hugs them, dances with them, and wholeheartedly celebrates every small achievement. The progress they have made is becoming immeasurable.

Olena has become a beacon of hope and light in the lives of the children and their parents. Her story serves as a reminder that in the face of adversity, a heart filled with compassion and dedication can work wonders. We express our profound gratitude to Olena for her invaluable contribution.

These initiatives were made possible through the support of FONSS within projects funded by UNHCR Romania.
